Visit to Gandhi Smriti, class 1
To augment the learning about our great leaders on the occasion of Republic Day, a
visit to Gandhi Smriti was organised for class 1 on 2nd February 2018. The curiosity to know more was clearly evident after the students were shown a powerpoint presentation created by the teachers on Gandhijis life, his contribution to the freedom movement and the values he stood for.
On reaching Gandhi Smriti we were delighted to see the expanse of manicured garden and a life size model of the charkha at the entrance. There were tableaux offering detailed visuals about the course of independence and the sacrifices made by our leaders. The children were excited to see Gandhijis meagre possessions a walking stick, spectacles, a spinning wheel and a pair of chappals.

The children noted that Gandhiji spectacles were similar to the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan symbol they see everywhere. They were surprised to know that it was Bapu who dreamt of a clean India and sanitation for all. The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is helping realise his dream of a cleaner and better society.
Volunteers wearing khadi took us around the museum which showcased paintings, sculptures, inscriptions and relics relating to the years the Mahatma spent there. The children were particularly excited to stand around the Unity TreeIt which got illuminated when the children stood together holding hands-the slightest slip on the hand holding and the lights went out! Expectedly our children tightly clutched each others hands lest the lights went off! It was an unforgettable lesson in the power of unity.
Our visit reached its culmination with a short film on Bapu which showcased his simplicity. The teachers answered all the questions that kept popping in the learners minds once we came back to School. Students also drew beautiful illustrations of what they saw and experienced at Gandhi Smriti.
The visit was indeed an enriching experience for all the students and teachers.
