Webinar on Best Engagement during virtual Library Sessions

Never had we imagined that library classes could happen online! Taking virtual classes was a challenge for the librarian community. Each one of us conceived of and put together various activities to engage the kids.

Keeping this challenge in mind, CBSE organised a webinar on 11 November 2020 for the librarian fraternity. The one-hour webinar was based on the topic Best Engagement during virtual Library Sessions. It was conducted by Ms. Mamta Maggu ( Librarian , Bal Bharti School, Noida). Around 80 library professionals attended the session.

Ms. Maggu started the session with some handout activities on Padlet. She created a Padlet where the attendees submitted their ideas for fun activities which could be conducted during the virtual library classes. Everyone contributed innovative ideas like the scavenger hunt, virtual tour, book exhibition, quizathon, newspaper puzzles, comic strips, reading marathon, book hospitals etc.

Ms. Maggu emphasised on research-based reading and also expressed the idea behind documentation which is an essential part of a librarians profession. The importance of technology and its integration were also talked about. Tools like Pixton and Wakelet were discussed where the kids can participate with full fervour. Reading resources and important websites like Epic Books, Pinna, Storyweaver, Literacy Cloud were also talked about during the course of the webinar. It was interesting to know that all these resources can be deployed in a virtual library class.

It was an enriching experience and provided information on using various tools available on the internet. The session reminded us of a famous quote by Augustine Birrell - Libraries are not made; they grow.
