Art and Geometry- workshop for class 4

The COVID-19 pandemic has introduced extraordinary times and created a need for constant mental stimulation of nascent minds through creative, academic and physical activities.

The Indian School in collaboration with the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art conducted a virtual workshop on the Zoom platform for the students of class 4 on 19 August 2020 at 5:45 pm. The online event aimed at awakening the aesthetic sensibilities and creativities in the young learners by introducing them to a joyful learning experience.

78 students of class 4 and their class teachers - Ms Taniya Sutradhar, Ms Asha lakshmi, Ms Sheetal Singh, Ms Parul Singh and Ms Supriya Sahay Gupta were accorded the opportunity to attend the online session by Ms Rimmy Mehta, the museums resource person.

The workshop highlighted how various art forms can be used for interactive methods of teaching and engaging impressionable young learners.

The children were initiated into the realm of art-making with innovative and thought-provoking activity based on geometry. The children were asked to make a landscape using art materials like A4 sized coloured sheets, glue, and scissors. The excited artists cut out different geometrical shapes and created a vibrant landscape of oval, circles, rectangles pasted on a blank sheet to characterise the hills, sun, streams and so on. They were also taught how to measure centimetres using a scale.

The students were excited to discover the innovative learning techniques in the comfort of their homes. Their absorbed expressions reflected their quest for learning even in the face of adversity.

The students made vivid and spectacular landscapes which showcased their individual styles and earned them praise from the resource person and teachers.

Ms Rimmy Mehta impressed her young audiences with her impeccable style and knowledge. The session concluded on a joyous note with the students expressing their appreciation and gratitude at the awakening of their latent artistry!
