Citizenship Programme carries Cracker-free campaign to neighbourhood government school.
On Wednesday, 4th November 2015, students of our School took on the task of carrying the message of ‘ Say no to crackers’ to the nearby NDMC school.
( The Citizenship Programme is a part of this initiative and after performing the Nukkad Natak at the Defence Colony mela, we sought permission to take the message over to nearby government schools with the help of Councillor, Mr. Abhishek Dutt).
We reached the host school at 8 am and were welcomed by Principal Sharif.
Our students spoke to the children between the ages of 5-10 on the ill-effects of burning crackers and asked them to sign a pledge. They then, performed the Nukkad Natak and handed out leaflets. The children at the school watched the natak in curiosity and showed keen interest in joining hands with the campaign and discouraging their friends from burning crackers.
We were joined by Ms. Sheenu Khurana and Ms. Bina Kalan from Defence Colony who are also part of the campaign. Also joining us was Nida, reporter with the New York Times, who has been following our campaign.
Ms. Nida accepted our invitation and visited our School to see Shramdaan and the other aspects of The Citizenship Programme. We walked her through School and gave her a glimpse of the Diwali diyas being prepared as Shramdaan.
We look forward to continuing the task of spreading awareness of matters of the environment at other nearby government schools.
