Protest March on the BRT on Earth Day
“We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children”, so sensitively entreated by screaminng posters carried aloft by our senior students to the rapid and rhythmic beat of the accompanying drummers. This was part of the protest marchin, an attempt to sensitise the public at large, to the importance of preserving our planet.
The March began at 10.30 a.m with about 100 children carrying placards and posters marching in rhythm with the drumbeats of the school band. The catchy slogans on the banners along with the life sized coloured paper ‘scare-crows’ made a poignant case against pollution. The messages were loud and clear;
• What on earth are you doing for the Earth?
• Turn off your engines. Kids breathe here.
The students were whole-heartedly supported in their cause by the Deputy Chairperson, Dr. Mrs. Nayana Goradia; Director, Mr. Lal Raisinghani; Principal, Mrs.Rashi Narula, Bursar, Mr. Vaid and the teachers.
The madrew successfully caught the attention of pedestrians alike. Many acknowledged the effort with gestures of a salute and appreciative smiles. Several motorists even spontaneously turned off their engines at the traffic lights as symbolic of their support.
The pledge to protect our Earth is a massive responsibility but our contribution to the cause was a short yet significant one.
