NUKKAD NATAK by the Citizenship Programme
On Saturday, 17th January 2015, and nearly two months after our students of the Citizenship a Programme adopted Defence Colony Market as their contribution to the Swachch Bharat Abhiyan, they performed a Nukkad Natak in the market to motivate both shopkeepers and visitors to keep their market clean.
When we started our exercise, we were horrified to find that the market did not possess a dustbin where the public could drop their litter! Now, the Citizenship Programme of our School has raised money and contributed 14 dustbins to the market. A further 4 dustbins have been procured from the MCD, with the support of councillor, Mr. Abhishek Dutt, upon our request.
The shopkeepers of the market have recorded their appreciation of our efforts.
On the 17th, the students and their teachers assembled in the market at 2 pm and with the beckoning beats of their drums, walked about the market twice to draw the attention of all present. They halted at 3 spots to perform the Nukkad Natak, written and directed by the students themselves on Cleanliness. Curious onlookers spontaneously gathered around, each time and soon the numbers had swelled to make a crowd! The play held the attention and the audience remained attached, as it were, till the end of every performance. The applause itself spoke for the message and left us very reassured!
It was encouraging to see the office-bearers of the Market Association walk with the children in support of the cause. Ms. Madhavi Divan, mentor of the Citizenship Programme at our School, was also present to cheer the children. The children also walked from shop to shop to collect feedback on the programme since it’s inception. They also spoke to passersby on what they thought of the Nukkad Natak. The vibes were extremely positive and the students returned delighted.
The following day, the Secretary of the Market Association sent us the following message of encouragement.
” Dear Ms. Aswani,
This is just to show our gratitude and thanks for the fantastic effort by the kids of The Indian School last Saturday in our Defence Colony Market. The way the Nukkad Natak was conducted shows their commitment and makes us so convinced and happy that the future is bright for a neater and cleaner India. We all appreciate the involvement of all the teachers too without whose dedication and vision these kind of programmes can’t succeed.
Thanks again
