On 30 January, 2016, the Citizenship Programme, in collaboration with the citizen- volunteers’ group, New Delhi Rising, undertook a SPOT FIX beneath the Moolchand Flyover. Our young volunteers were Rohnit Puri, Nitansh Anand, Tania Aswani, Himadri Singh of class 8B. Ms. Sandhya Batheja and Ms. Sangeeta Aswani accompanied them.
After a ‘spot fix’ of the first part of the pillars, we now set out to make a difference to the reverse of the pillars and the metro pillars under the Moolchand Flyover
These pillars were also vandalised with posters. At 9.30 am, the children divided the work area between the two pillars on the road connecting Defence Colony and Greater Kailash. They started scraping off the posters with brushes and cleaning up the areas that had been vandalised by random posters and garbage. After this, they applied a fresh coat of white paint to give the area a clean and fresh look. When dry, they decorated the space by painting red circles, large and small in an attractive pattern to match the earlier work done on the opposite side. After over 2 hours, we wrapped up for the day feeling good that we had managed to make a difference to such a prime location, with the pillars now sporting a new look in the front and at the back.
We are sure that next time you drive past the flyover, you won’t be able to take your eyes off the hard work !The remaining pillars under the adjoining Metro pillars and the walls alongside the flyover are to be reclaimed in the coming weeks.
