A Theatre workshop on Heritage with Faisal Alkazi.
Why children's Theatre?
At School, we conduct drama classes as we believe that Drama is a definite means to enable the complete development of the child. The child learns to introspect and discover himself or herself, besides learn to imagine and concentrate. He/ she learns to work in a team, to share and help, to develop poise and condidence besides clarity of communication.
In this direction we took 3 students, Gurvit, Pranav and Faraz to attend a theatre workshop at the India International Centre on 20 November, 2012 for a drama workshop conducted by INTACH. INTACH had invited well- known theatre personality Faisal Alkazi to take a special class for the participating students. This was indeed a novel experience for each of our students! They were very curious to know what all would transpire at the workshop. Soon they learnt as the workshop unfolded and they excitedly followed directions .
The theme of the theatre workshop was Heritage so subjects used for enactments were from the history of the Qutab Minar, Razia Sultan, and even episodes from Chinese history. The children had to suggest depictions with posture, gesture, facial expression and voice modulation. They were also guided to improvise a story based on the Slave trade.
We carried back a memorable experience and certificates of participation. The drama exchange had also provided an opportunity to our students to interact with their peers from other schools in a common interest. And they returned delighted.
