XV Genetics Congress Trust, an organisation of eminent geneticists under the chairmanship of Dr. M.S Swaminathan, conducted a two-day workshop on 8th and 9th June, 2017 for PGT (Biology) teachers of Delhi. The topic of the workshop was Basic Genetics and Molecular Biology and venue was the National Research Centre on Plant Biotechnology.
Each day was divided into two sessions. In the first half of the session, lectures were delivered in the form of presentations by eminent scientists on various topics relating to the CBSE curriculum. The topics of the lecture were Gene cloning, Genetics, RNAi, DNA fingerprinting and the Human Genome. All the topics were informative and added to the learning of the teachers.

Post-lunch sessions included practicals. They aimed at providing a hands'-on experience of latest biotech skills. The topics for the practicals were DNA Isolation, PCR, DNA restriction, preparation of competent cells, transformation and Blue- white selection. We got an opportunity to visit many of the labs, for a glimpse of the facilities at the institute. It was at one such lab that we saw the first Gene Gun, DNA sequencers and confocal microscopes.
The experience was truly an amazing one. I am very happy to have attended such a workshop which enhanced my knowledge in the subject.
