Chairman's Tea

On Thursday 24th December, 2015, a pleasant winter evening, alumni from the streams of Science, Commerce and Humanities, across batches 2006 to 2015, gathered in the School Hall with the Chairman for tea.

It was a moment of pride for the teachers and students of class XII to watch their erstwhile seniors now manning coveted positions as directors, lawyers, engineers, chartered accountants, and educationists both in India and abroad.

After a welcome address by principal Ms. Tania Joshi, chairman Mr. Prafull Goradia addressed the gathering of both, present and former Indianites. He pointed out that a meeting with alumni served to estimate the effectiveness of the school in meeting standards of excellence. According to him, the alumnus is the best critic of a school's performance. He urged the class XII students to use the opportunity to exchange new ideas and paradigms with their seniors. A brief introduction about the alumni present on the occasion, was given by Dr. Anu Singh, Vice Principal.

While interacting with the alumni, we learnt more about their accomplishments and experiences in their respective fields. Sonia Ahuja and Aditya Dutt from the first batch of Class XII(2006) were also present. Sonia, a science student with psychology, now heads a private recruitment firm while Aditya has become an accomplished chartered accountant.

Mitul Anubhuti Chaturvedi, who is studying medicine at Lady Hardinge College and Shiranshu Kumar Jayant, who is pursuing medicine from the University College of Medical Sciences, Delhi University shared, with the students of Class XII, new areas of specialisation that aspiring doctors should focus on. Sidhant Sen, a physics student from St. Stephens College, Aarushi Chaturvedi, Rijul Batra, Garvit Kala, all engineering students, threw light on the different courses in engineering. Luvditya Khurana explained why he chose architecture over the mainstream B.Tech course. Pritha Ray chose to study a combination of engineering and management at the NarseeMonjee Institute of Management Studies. She shared her experiences with us too.

In the course of our interactions, we came across many success stories. Some of the few who spoke to us were Hardik Wadhwa, currently pursuing an MBA at IIM, Ahmedabad, Jyoti Wadhwa, presently working with Standard and Poor, Gurmani Chaddha and Parul Arora, alumni of Shri Ram College of Commerce, DU, Prabhleen Kaur, student of Jesus and Mary College, currently working with Price Waterhouse Coopers and Mahima Batheja, a second semester student of BMS at Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies, DU. Ishaan Chopra has ventured into sports' management. Kunal Bhutani has recently completed his masters degree in finance from Lancaster University, United Kingdom. Santosh Kumar Pandey spoke to us about law. He has not only completed his masters' degree in law from University College, London but is currently an enroute solicitor for England and Wales. Pritish Tekchandani is pursuing law. Sasha Samuel, alumnus of St. Stephens College, opened our minds to journalism while Umang Bajpei, at Hindu College, emphasised upon ' thinking out of the box'. Chandni Airi and Parul Khungar have joined the teaching fraternity. Devika Sharma has pursued her passion in French.

The evening taught us a new lesson which is to follow our dreams with undying passion. It gave us insight into the ups and downs from the lives and careers of our alumni. We enriched ourselves with information about experiences across various sectors, be it engineering, scholastic, medicine, architecture, law, chartered accountancy or management. The event also echoed the spirit of thinking global but remaining attached to ones roots . We saw the alumni nostalgic, proud, happy and full of drive for higher achievements in life. It was an inspiring evening.
