Citizenship Programme initiative-teaching chess at MCD school

On Wednesday July 19, 2023, a team of students of The Indian School, visited the MCD School in Sadiq Nagar to conduct two mentoring sessions. The first one was a Chess Mentorship in which Akshit Bhatia (XI), Karman Singh, Manan Virmani, and Tanish Diwan (Class IX) explained the basics of the game. They elucidated the principles of chess, such as castling. Our team mentored the students using games and giving the children a hands-on experience. Their work was greatly appreciated by the participants. During the session, the students at the MCD school showed enthusiasm towards chess and the workshop.

A simultaneous workshop was conducted by Dhruv Sacheti (XI) on Kargil Diwas. The participants were eager to learn about the Kargil war. They also enjoyed the video that was played to demonstrate the historical event through a visual presentation. During the workshop, the perilous circumstances that the soldiers had to face in the freezing terrains of Kargil were explained in detail. The operations carried out by the Indian armed forces were also highlighted. This workshop was conducted in Hindi for better understanding.

Both the workshops were a success. The mentors and the mentees displayed a sense of passion, which was overall responsible for the positive feedback from both the teachers and students present there.
