Students of class 1C of The Indian School engaged in an online interactive session with Ms Yasuyo and her students at the Toko Gakuen Elementary School in Kanagawa Prefecture, Tokyo, on 16 July, 2022 from 8:15 am to 9 am. Ms Priya Kulkarni, class teacher of IC, facilitated the interaction with the school situated in the Land of the Rising Sun.
The Mystery Skype session saw the virtual visitors guess the host country based on clues by our Alayna and Rajsi. The latter hinted that the host country is a part of the Asian sub continent and boasts of the world-famous Taj Mahal! The young Japanese students were quick and soon guessed that they were interacting with schoolchildren based in India.
After this exciting ice-breaker, the class I C students introduced their Japanese counterparts to the Indian national symbols. The presentation covered the explanations for their selection, significance and relevance to Indian culture.
[gallery link="file" order="DESC"]Rubaani spoke eloquently on the tricolour flag, while Tisha described the national flower, the Lotus; Gurveer was articulate in his presentation of the national fruit- mango, and Hitarth about the national game, hockey.
Atiksh and Rajsi spoke about the national animal (tiger) and the bird (peacock). Lastly, Anaya Satija described the impressive banyan tree, revered in India as the national tree.
The session concluded with Rajsi wishing the virtual visitors luck (ogenki de) and goodbye (sayonara) in Japanese much to their delight.
It was an engaging, enjoyable and enriching experience for the students, and they enjoyed every bit of the session.
