Class 7 attends Gandhi Vatika inauguration
On 4 September 2023, 34 children of class 7, accompanied by Vice-Principal Dr Anu Singh and teachers, Ms Vidusha Sharma, Ms Kajal Manchanda and Mr Rohit Dubey, embarked on a visit to Gandhi Vatika. This special event was graced by the presence of India's first citizen, President Draupadi Murmu, who unveiled a magnificent 12-foot-high statue of Mahatma Gandhi to inaugurate the Vatika. This newly established garden is aptly named the Gandhi Selfie Garden, featuring a 12-foot-high statue of Mahatma Gandhi spinning a charkha. Additionally, the garden boasts statues of Gandhiji in various postures, including the Mahatma sitting on a bench, riding a bicycle, and engaged in singing bhajans.

On this significant occasion, the Vice President of the Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti and former Union Minister Mr Vijay Goel and Honourable Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, were in attendance. The event drew participants from approximately 30 schools across Delhi, including students, teachers, and other dignitaries.
In her address to the gathering, President Murmu emphasised Mahatma Gandhi's global values as a beacon of inspiration for the entire world. She highlighted that celebrated figures like Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther and Barack Obama have all regarded Gandhi's path of truth and non-violence as the route to global well being. She reiterated Gandhi's belief in a world united as one family and emphasised India's efforts to foster global brotherhood, cooperation, and peace. The President also urged the audience to take proactive steps in educating communities about Gandhi's life and teachings through books, films, etc as this would play a pivotal role in realising the India of Gandhi's dreams.
Reflecting on her own upbringing, the President captivated the audience with incidents from her childhood. She shared how her grandmother had been her role model, who would tell her enlightening stories and motivate her. As a result, despite facing poverty, she harboured a strong desire for education and would walk barefoot to the village school. With determination and the assistance of scholarships, she continued her education beyond the seventh grade.
The event was a great learning experience for all the attendees as they returned highly inspired to take on new challenges and overcome hurdles.
