Earth Day celebrations in Pre primary

Earth is our planet and home to an incredible diversity of life. So, it is our duty to save it. We human beings have become a threat to the environment because of our greed for development and luxury.

We need to take action now to protect our environment before its too late. Children too can make a significant contribution in saving the environment. Starting early can truly make a difference and efforts have to be made to inculcate habits which they will carry on as they grow.

Keeping this in mind, the children of the Pre-primary department observed Earth Day on 22 April 2019. With a lot of enthusiasm, the children dived into the day with each class conducting varied activities to help the children know and empathise with our comcern. Apart from some creative craft and colouring activities, the children were also shown short movies about the importance of saving water, reducing pollution, recycling waste, protecting wildlife, plants and trees.

The story of The Giving Tree was narrated in class and the children were made aware that EVERY DAY IS EARTH DAY and each one of us should plant a sapling. Students of Preschool and Pre-Primary participated in various activities like tear and pasting paper bits on cut outs of the earth, sticking leaves on a replica of a bare tree, making a collage of wild animals, hand printing, colouring head gear etc. They made posters based on the theme How to reduce water waste. Many children promised to make a change in their habits and help save water. They promised to say No to shower baths and substituting with obucket baths, keep the taps off while soaping the hands or brushing the teeth, getting their parents to fix leaking taps and pouring all left over water in the plants.

Although only one day in the year is formally dedicated to this cause, it is the continuous effort of each individual including the children who are the citizens of tomorrow that will make a difference.
