Excursion of class 1 to the National Crafts Museum

An excursion of class 1 students was organised to the National Crafts Museum on 25 August, 2015. The museum is situated at the Pragati Maidan and we entered the complex, on foot, through a passage, covered with a sloping tiled roof. The museum is well spread and houses a wide range of traditional and creative arts from terracotta dwellings to handmade jewellery. The museum displays huts of mud and haystacks, a courtyard with pigeon huts, a bullock cart and a jharokha to name a few. The complex is laid out to create the ambience of a village. Sighting mud houses with thatched roofs was probably a first experience for many of our little ones and they curiously quizzed their teachers about them. They also stopped to quietly observe the craftsmen at their work. Traditional toys were aplenty and were also a great attraction for the children. In fact they were enthralled to see the artisans at work. It was an enriching experience for the students as well as teachers.
