Excursion to the Indira Gandhi Memorial Museum, class 3.
School excursions are always welcome, both as a break for the classroom routine as well as for their edutainment!
An educational trip was organized to the Indira Gandhi Memorial Museum on 19 December, 2013 for the students of class 3. The museum was the residence of the late Prime Minister of India, Mrs. Indira Gandhi, now, converted into a museum. A large collection of rare photographs of the nationalist movement and of personal family moments of the Nehru Gandhi family including Mrs. Gandhi's childhood are displayed for visitors.
The children were briefed in the classroom about what they were headed to see and the anticipation amongst them seemed high. So we set out, armed with our water bottles, packed picnic snacks and our eagerness!
We walked around the galleries at the venue, some of us silently in awe, others in animated recollection of what they had heard and now saw. They carefully observed the personal memorabilia of the late leader and also saw a short film on her life.
Some children were curious about the freedom movement and others easily identified leaders they spotted in the photographs on display. Some drew a clever connection between the khaki topis they saw with the charkha preserved at School! Most had seen a photograph of Mrs. Gandhi at some point in the past.
After our informative walk-through, we settled down in a quiet spot outdoors to our refreshments.
