Expanding Horizons - A Session on Increasing Opportunities of Higher Education.

On 31 October, 2012, students of class 11 made a trip to D.P.S Gurgaon, to participate in the National Symposium on Higher Education. It was a valuable opportunity to gather information pertaining to a wide range of courses of higher education and careers. Several institutes had stalls like the University of Alberta, IIMT, University of Petroleum and Energy Studies and so on. We also had the opportunity to attend an individual career - session.Answering our specific queries, the counselors suggested novel career options like cloud computing and apparel management. Some of us wanted to know the requirements for jobs in multinational companies in the area of marketing. Our questions were adequately addressed. There was also an interaction with professionals from IIMT and the Lovely Professional University where we were to,d about possible discrimination that students of the Humanities stream often face. We were also informed that Liberal Arts' subjects are gradually getting merged with mainstream science courses to offer a greater and a more diverse choice to students.

Our accompanying teachers attended a talk by renowned counseling psychologist, Dr. V.S. Ravindran on the changing role of the teacher in modern education. We returned with several new perspectives on the course we could cut for ourselves as we ready for life ahead.

Trans-Disciplinary Education

On 30 October, 2012, classes 9, 10 and 11 attended a presentation on trans- disciplinary education in our School auditorium by Messrs. Ankit Sekhri and Raminder Gorsh, representatives of Ansal University, Gurgaon. They elaborated on it's advantages along with the wide exposure this type of education provides, for students who want to go beyond Delhi University courses. Apart from taking core subjects, a student is encouraged to pursue his hobbies and passions like music, art, etc as additional subjects in the curriculum.

Thus we were exposed to a transcending shift from traditional to New Age universities. Trans-disciplinary education not only breaks the barriers between different streams but it also allows students to study at alternate campuses ( of other universities) across the semesters, a new concept coined Meta- University. The courses are student-centred taking into account the aptitude and the attitude of the students, we were informed.
