Ganit Week through the School

The study of mathematics, like the Nile, begins in minuteness but ends in magnicence. "

--Charles Caleb Colton.

True to its meaning, Mathematics indeed is deeper than an ocean beholding many hidden treasures. To commemorate the birth anniversary of the famous mathematician, Srinivasa Ramanujan, we at The Indian School celebrated GANIT WEEK from 22nd December to 30th December 2016.

To begin with, class 3 from the primary section, played with Tangrams, a Chinese puzzle consisting of mathematical shapes. It was remarkable to witness little hands weaving beautiful patterns. Class 4 enjoyed Mathembola, which is an amalgamation of traditional tambola and Mathematics. To reinforce the various mathematical concepts learnt by them, class 5 went ahead to create their own board games based on decimals, fractions and other such topics.

The students of classes VI and VII showcased their creative skills by preparing collages on Mathematicians and their Contributions. An assembly was also organised where the students dressed up as the famous mathematicians and threw light on their lives and achievements.

Students even got the opportunity to travel down the ages while watching a short documentary on the History of Mathematics. A skit on Mathematics and Architecture in the Pyramids of Egypt was also presented during a class assembly.

Another assembly was organised by the students of classes VIII and IX. It comprised of a talk on the life and contributions of Ramanujan and a power point presentation showing Math underlying the pyramids. A quiz was also conducted to test the mathematical knowledge of students.

Classes IX and X enjoyed a movie, The Man who Knew Infinity in the School auditorium. The mathematical faculties of the students from classes X and XI were reinforced in an interesting quiz with rounds named Math Trivia, Tricky Math, Guess the Mathematician and Math in Everyday Life. There was mass participation and kept the students on edge.

The events organised by School gave the children interesting insights that will go a long way in building their enthusiasm for this subject.
