Heritage Excursion for Class III to Dilli Darshan 19.10.2013 (Saturday)

On 9 October, 2013, the students of class III accompanied by their teachers went on a heritage excursion to the Qutab Minar. We believe school excursions enhance the students' learning by providing an opportunity to participate in curriculum-related activities outside the classroom. This time the purpose was to introduce the children to a heritage site of Delhi, namely the Qutab Minar.

The children were told the history on the monument in brief in the class. They were told that the Qutab Minar is the tallest tower in India and the worlds tallest brick minaret. They listened in rapt attention and seemed eager to get going there!

Once there we walked around the complex holding hands as the teachers related briefly the names of the rulers who had constructed the tower over different periods of history. The children were very curious to see the Iron Pillar which never rusts.

On the way back, we dropped by to view the Mahavir statue and again, we used the opportunity to tell the children briefly about the philosophy of Lord Mahavir.

Last but not the least, we stopped at the Deer Park in Hauz Khas where the children stretched and opened their tiffin boxes. Some finished quickly and chose to run about spotting the deer, peacocks and the guinea pigs. Others quietly explored the area in the company of their friends on the lovely autumn morning.

Soon it was time to return and the children reluctantly boarded the buses.
