On 20th April, 2018, 2 students of our School, Akshat Sharma(XII) and Shrey Gogia(XI), participated in the 52nd Gowardhan Das Memorial Declamation Contest held at Springdales School, Pusa Road. Mr. C.V. Srikanth, motivational speaker and alumnus of the host school, presided over the contest. The event began at 9:30 am and continued till 3 pm. As many as 55 schools and over 100 students took part in the contest.
The competition is an inter-school extempore declamation contest which encourages students to take keen interest in current affairs and to develop the art of public speaking. The event has become a well established and popular event in which leading schools of the capital participate. A panel of educationists are the judges.
Our School has been participating nearly every year and won the Gowardhan Das Trophy in 2015. This year too our students were well prepared for the event and spoke with great confidence and lan. There were various topics. Some of them were:
1. Degenerated democracy calls for dictatorship.
2. The world is a family.
3. Water wars the reality of the future.
4. Whats in a surname if you want to make a name.
5. Is the China Pak economic corridor a game changer?
Students were given 30 minutes to prepare their speeches and spoke for 3 minutes each. It was a treat to watch the participants pitch their points! There were 30 different topics that were discussed by students present there. The topics ranged from moral issues to women's empowerment, to topical events. It was wonderful to see the speakers interpret the same topic in a different way.
Akshat Sharma spoke on the topic, One of the challenges to editorial independence is making a clear distinction between truth and sensation ,whereas Shrey expressed his views on Is it Indias century?
It was a very proud moment for us as our students took the second position and lifted the Anil Das Memorial Trophy!
