Inter-School Declamation Contest
On the 16 April, 2014, Pranati Haldia, class 11 and I, Ojasvi Jain, class 12, participated in the 48th Gowardhan Dass Memorial Inter School Declamation Contest hosted by Springdales School, Pusa Road.
"Strong Convictions Preceed Great Actions"; reflecting upon the idea we geared up for the contest. Several hotly debated topics set the tone for the competition which ranged from technology to elections, from NOTA to Mandela, etc., covering every aspect of our society. Each theme brought forth conviction, as the participants energetically pleaded their points of view.
Our topics were decided by a lucky draw. Fortunately I received a topic which is greatly in vogue-"Selfies-creative self expression or Mindless self- obsession", while Pranati was quite at home speaking on-"Technology has the power to change the future".
Both of us delivered a three- minute extempore with our every energy and ingenuity.
We were privileged to be judged by an eminent panel of judges:
1) Ms. Debjani Sengupta-Professor of English, Indraprastha
2) Ms. Lotty Alaric-TV presenter, Lok Sabha tv
3) Mr. Kishore Thukral-Author and Photographer
We competed with 23 leading schools from all over India. It was a keenly contested event with all participants putting forth their best. This experience broadened our horizons and highlighted the true meaning of Declamation, that is- Diction, Eloquence and Conviction.
