Interaction on sustainable development at TERI

5 students from our School visited TERI University on 1st December, 2017 for a sustainable development workshop, conducted and sponsored by the Swedish Embassy.

The participants were Abhimanyu Marwah (XI-B), Janis Oberoi(XI-B), Meghna Navariya (XI-E), Jai Adlakha (XI-D) and Arsalan Arif Radhu (XI-B).

At the start of the event we were told about the university and the motive behind this workshop. Thereafter, His Excellency Lars Ronnas - Ambassador for Climate Change, shared with the audience the achievements of his team. There was an interactive session in which we asked him several questions. One of the questions asked was the possible reason for the USA pulling out of the Paris agreement. He promptly quipped Donald Trump with a sigh!

Later we were given insights on the latest technologies developed in Sweden. A lecturer at TERI talked about the need to maintain an equity of resources. He explained with a small activity in the assembly. In the activity we were asked to pass on the water filled in our fists to the person sitting next. We were only able to reach the sixth person when the water that we were passing was deplete! This was an important activity to demonstrate that the transferring of resources is improper and highly variable as the first one got sufficient water, the next one a little less and so on until it quickly got over. This very powerfully highlighted the necessity of sustainable development.

We were then handed a form to fill up about the things we do to create carbon footprints and ways to reduce them.

On the whole we felt it was an interesting workshop but we missed mining solutions.
