Interaction with School chairman- Coming of the British -classes 4 and 5

The students of classes IV and V were delighted to attend an insightful and interactive session with the chairman of our School, Mr. Prafull Goradia , on the topic The Coming of the British in the School auditorium on Tuesday, 16 October 2018.

The session began with sir asking the students if they had heard about Vasco da Gama, the Portuguese explorer, who discovered a sea route to India. He went on to explain how the Dutch followed the Portuguese to India and established trade centres. Also, how the British merchants formed the East India Company and built their first trade centre at Surat. Mr. Goradia shed light on how the French too, set up their own trading company and established themselves in Bengal and Pondicherry.

After a fascinating travel through the colourful bylanes of India's colonial history, the students were encouraged to ask questions. The session progressed with Sir responding to their questionings with sagacity. He explained how the weakening of the Mughal Empire made the East India Company more ambitious and spread its tentacles in India by putting the Nawab of Bengal, Siraj-ud-Daulah to death and annexing Bengal.

The assembly ended on an exciting and interactive note with Mr. Goradia painting a clear picture of the historical events that shaped India's destiny.

In the end, a power point presentation was shown to the students which summarised the talk. All the students thoroughly enjoyed the meeting and we're looking forward to another similar interaction. Ms. Sheetal Singh
