International School Award Activity (British Council) on 'Preparation of a Questionnaire'
On 22nd February 2017, 35 students of class VIII participated in the ISA activity which involved the methodology for the preparation of a questionnaire on air pollution. The activity was conducted by Ms. Nausheen Wasi, Chemistry teacher at our School, during school hours.
The students actively participated in the activity wherein they gave useful inputs for the basic requirements of a questionnaire. The students were made aware, that, although preparing a questionnaire appears very straight-forward, unless it is designed properly, the results can be skewed and unreliable.

Some of the points included were- basic information of the respondent, a brief introduction of the topic, and simple questions based on the topic. Different types of questions were also discussed, such as, use of close-ended questions to gather specific answers, use of open-ended questions to solicit feedback, and the need to frame questions cautiously to avoid confusion and bias. The students were also taught to always test their questionnaires before beginning to survey people.
After discussing the important points of the questionnaire, the students framed appropriate questions on the topic 'Air Pollution'. The questionnaire was prepared to analyse the extent of air pollution in cities of other countries to enable a comparison with their own city. The students were happy to be a part of this learning and informative activity. They took back with them a new experience and an exposure of how to pursue research projects in a positive and effective manner.
