Internship at IIITD

On 23rd June, 2014, we. a group of six students of class 11 who volunteered for the summer internship programme, were set to explore our common interest-IT at the Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi( IIITD).

IIITD, a computer engineering institute established in 2012 aims to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship and offers courses in the areas of B.Tech, M.Tech and PhD .

On the first day of our internship, we were introduced to the horizons of computer software. We discussed the difficulties faced while making software, the problem space and the solution space. The session ended with two very interesting activities where we were divided into groups of three. The first activity was a debate on whether Design is Engineering or an Art. In the second activity, one group- member from each team was shown a picture which he had to describe to two other teammates by speaking, without using actions. Flying the Quad Copter and understanding the logic of it was an enjoyable experience.

In the next session we were introduced to Mechanical Engineering and learnt about electric graphs and waves.

On the third day we were taught to programme an Arduino, which is a miniature motherboard that controls the functionality of the LEDs, when linked together. Programming Android software was something that the students always wanted to do, and got this opportunity at IIITD.

The subsequent session was on Geographical Information Sciences (GIS) which is a newly-evolved technology. A quiz was also conducted during the session to test the level of understanding we had achieved. On our final day at IIITD we worked with Facebook API and saw how CAPTCHAs can be made more interesting.

The internship programme has imprinted an everlasting impression and we extended our hearty gratitude to our IIITD coordinator Dr. Rahul and our teachers at School.
