Joyous Gyan workshop for teachers
When hands learn before the mind, mathematics becomes joyful and lasting.
An enriching a two-day workshop was conducted by Jodo Gyan on 19th and 20th October, 2025 at USO House. This workshop was organised for classes 1, 2, and 3. Teachers of different schools participated in the workshop, and Ms Deepali Arora represented The Indian School for the Foundational Stage sessions, which focussed on strengthening conceptual understanding in Math through meaningful questioning, relatable real-life contexts, and a child-centred approach to teaching and learning. The sessions thoughtfully emphasised the importance of introducing mathematical concepts through hands'-on exploration before moving to formal definitions.
Through the workshop, key pedagogical ideas such as developing student readiness, encouraging open-ended questioning, nurturing curiosity, and promoting learning as a collaborative process were discussed in depth. These strategies were presented as powerful tools to help children form natural connections, think independently, and build confidence in their mathematical reasoning.
A variety of engaging hands'-on activities using Jodo straws, the Ganit Mala, and simple tasks related to counting and estimation were shared with the participants. These activities creatively demonstrated how purposeful, well-designed experiences can deepen conceptual clarity and make learning joyful and meaningful. The workshop strongly reinforced the idea that true learning takes place through doing, discussing, questioning, and exploring—rather than merely completing tasks.
Overall, the workshop was an insightful and enriching experience that equipped us with practical strategies to make Math more engaging, meaningful, and student-friendly.
