School chairman Mr Goradia enlightens classes VII and VIII about the Iron Man of India: Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel

On 14 November 2025, an insightful talk on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, was conducted for the students of classes VII and VIII by School chairman Mr Prafull Goradia. The session aimed to help students understand the extraordinary role played by Sardar Patel in shaping modern India and the values he embodied as a national leader.

The venue for the talk was the School auditorium, which was filled with eager students whose enthusiasm made it evident that the interaction would be both enriching and engaging. As the session began, the students raised several thoughtful questions that reflected their curiosity about Sardar Patel’s life, leadership style, and his contributions to India’s unity.

Mr Goradia started the session by introducing Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel as one of the foremost leaders of India’s freedom struggle and an architect of independent India. He spoke about his unwavering determination, practical wisdom and strong administrative abilities—qualities that earned him the title of the “Iron Man of India”.

A major focus of the talk was Sardar Patel’s monumental contribution to the integration of the princely states.  Mr Goradia explained how, at the time of independence, India comprised of about 560 princely states, each with the choice to join India or Pakistan, or to remain independent. The future of the nation depended on unifying these diverse territories into one democratic union.

Mr Goradia narrated how Sardar Patel, as India’s first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, took on this massive responsibility. With firmness mixed with diplomacy, he convinced almost all princely states to accede to India. He highlighted historic examples such as the integration of Hyderabad, Junagadh and Kashmir, which demanded exceptional patience, strategy and courage. Patel’s efforts prevented balkanisation and ensured that India emerged as a stable and united country.

Mr Goradia responded to every question that the students raised, with clarity, helping students understand not just Patel’s political achievements but also his personal qualities such as discipline, integrity, fearlessness and deep commitment to national unity. Towards the end of the talk, he also shared some reflections on why Sardar Patel’s legacy remains relevant today. He encouraged students to imbibe Patel’s values, reminding them that strong nations are built upon strong, principled individuals.

The session left students  inspired and informed about one of India’s greatest nation-builders. The talk left a lasting impression, enabling the young learners to appreciate the importance of national integration and the invaluable contribution of to the building of the motherland that we know today.
