Learning by exchange on Skype

A skype classroom was organised by Ms. Chanda Sharma class teacher of IIIA to introduce her students to a new and innovative means of learning. The aim was to stretch the young horizons in a new and extended classroom. The interaction took place between the primary students of The Indian School and the DLF Public School, Gurugram.

The interaction started with introductions where the children on either side added on what they like doing the most! Once the ice was broken, the discussion was guided to the historical monuments that each set had visited on school excursions in and around Delhi. The students asked each other interesting questions and even shared anecdotes from history to supplement the facts they knew. The conversation was dotted with facts and stories about the Qutab Minar, the Red Fort and Bahadur Shah Zafar, even the revolt of 1857 and the destruction of a good part of Delhi. Shah Jehan and his opulence etc also awed the young ones. A student of the DLF School had recently visited the Humayuns Tomb and were excited to talk about it.

Shreyas shared with the other children that Humayuns Tomb is the tomb of the Mughal Emperor Humayun. The tomb was commissioned by Humayuns first wife and chief consort, Empress Bega Begum (also known as Haji Begum) . It was the first garden tomb on the Indian sub continent and is located in Nizamuddin. It was also the first structure to use Red Sandstone on a grand scale.

The conversation was free flowing, only gently moderated by the teachers to not permit the excited chatter to overpower the young speakers! It was thus an educative morning of learning and sharing, with peers meeting for the first time, albeit on a screen.
