Lingua Festa 2017

The Indian School participated in Lingua- Fiesta 2017, an inter-school event held at Blue Bells School on Wednesday 30th August 2017 from 8:30 am - 1:30 p.m.

The Chief Guest at the event was Dr. Hema Raghavan, former Principal, Gargi College and the moderator was Professor Nirmalaya Samantha who teaches at Delhi University. The panel of judges included Drs. S Dutta and S Sinha, both lecturers at Gargi College.

The event was conducted in the following categories:

1. Two participants from classes X-XII had were to read Tagores classic, Gora and present their perspectives in a book discussion and also as a speech. One participant spoke at the Book Discussion on Gora and the second student spoke on Tagore the Transformer. The time allotted to each speaker was 3 minutes. The students participating in this category were: Gurvandana Gandhi (XI-D) and Mallika Mukim (XI-C)

2. Eight participants from classes VIII and IX participated in the Choral Recitation of any one of Tagores poems. The time allotted to each group was 5 minutes. The students who participated were: Avreen Kaur (IX-D), Anushka Nayyar (IX-D), Aryan Singh(IX-D), Harsheen Kaur(IX-D), Anushka Saxena(VIII-B), Aadrita Goswamy(VIII-E), Ahhank (VIII E) and Vanshika Kanaujia(VIII-A)

3. Two participants from classes VI and VII participated in the On the Spot poetry writing competition. The duration of the event was 1 hour and 30 minutes. The participants were: Ryan Suri (VI-C) and Ananya Sunderesan(VII-E).

12 students in all enlisted for the various events of the competition. They got an insight into the classical works of Tagore, his mastery over the language and his views on patriotism, society, religion and humanism. Students were encouraged to flavour the story telling and poetry of Tagore and thereby his depictions of love, friendship, religious fervour and disillusionment.

It was an enriching and wholesome experience for the students.
