Maharaja Jiwaji Rao Scindia Memorial Lecture - ' Vision 2025'.
On 22 February 2015, the Scindia Old Boys' Association (SOBA), Delhi organised a memorial lecture at the India International Centre to commemorate their founder, the late H.H. Maharaja Jiwaji Rao Scindia. Students of classes X and XI, Chinmaya Iyer, Shubham Airi, Ritwik Arora, Arjun Singh Jolly, Shlok Tyagi, Danish Safdar and Shruti Bihani, accompanied by Mrs. Navreet Shergill, attended the prestigious event. We were one of the two schools from Delhi, the other being St Columbas, which had been invited for an interaction at the end of the lecture. We were accorded a warm welcome by Mr. Saumitro Sen and Mr. Samik Ghosh, Principal, The Scindia School.
Guest of Honour, Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia, President, Board of Governors, The Scindia School, Gwalior, lit the ceremonial lamp and spoke about how this glorious institution has hues of history and achievement. It is about the spirit, morals and ethics of India. A public school where tradition and modernity blend seamlessly; where students value their cultural heritage and yet remain in sync with all the advancements which are the need of the hour.
The agenda of the seminar was Vision 2025. The lecture featured many prominent personalities from diverse fields who shared their vision of where India would be in the next 10 years.
Air Marshall Shouvik Roy, Joint Director, ARC, Cabinet Secretariat, spoke about the virtues that need to be instilled in the citizens of our country to stimulate progress and development. He emphasised the importance of having skilled population.
Mr. Dipak Haksar , Chief Operating Officer, ITC Hotels gave a presentation on how tourism could serve a major role in uplifting the Indian economy. He stated that there is a fair chance of India becoming the worlds third largest economy by the year 2025.
Mr. Raghav Chandra, I.A.S Additional Secretary, Financial Advisor, Ministry of Agriculture, Central Secretariat, spoke about his experiences in the finance sector and the important role it plays in the countrys economy.
Chief Guest, Dr. Arunava Sen, Professor of Economics, Indian Statistical Institute, touched upon the feasibility of several economic policies. He drew attention to the flaws in the plans and programmes introduced by the AAP governmentDr. Nalin Mehta , Consulting Editor, the Times of India and Associate professor at Shiv Nadar University was programme moderator.Due to a paucity of time, the interactive session between the audience and the esteemed panelists could not take place. However, we were able to meet some of the dignitaries during the SOBA Alumni network dinner. We were also introduced to students from The Scindia School.
The lecture was inspiring and informative. It helped us realize that as the youth of India, we must work towards making our motherland stronger quickly and at par with the leading economies of the world.
