The Nehru Planetarium is situated in the green surroundings of Teen Murti House, formerly the official residence of India's first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru; now a museum in his memory. Nehru Planetarium is a wing of the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library.
9 students from classes 7 and 8 (Aditi Ghosh VIII-A, Sasmit VIII-B, Damak VIII-D, Hitesh Pank VIII-E, Shreya VII-A, Manan VII-B, Sehjal VII-C, Uday Soni VII-D, Trisha Menon VII-E) from classes VII and VIII visited the Nehru Planetarium on 17 November, 2018 to attend a workshop titled "Mars in focus". They also viewed an exhibition on the success of the Mangal Yaan ( Mars Orbiter Mission).
The planetarium runs a spectacular show "Mars in focus" to spread awareness about the Mars Orbiter Mission. The show was conducted in the Dome, the sky theatre, along with an engaging interaction with the director of the planetarium, Dr. N. Rathnasree. It was a very informative and interesting show which provided great learning.
[gallery link="file" order="DESC"]The students were told about Mars, its present conditions, land surface, orbit, gravitational power, natural satellites and its position in the solar system. They also gained knowledge on stars, constellations, and astronomy, in general. The students had a good time as they clicked pictures of themselves on the 3D model of the surface of Mars. They also checked their weight as it would be on Mars! We took a round of the planetarium before leaving.
