Outdoor art at the School Eco Park
40 art inclined students of classes 7, 8, 9 and 11 accompanied by their art teachers spent a bright winter morning indulging with an outdoor pen and paper sketching activity at the School eco park, on 12 January, 2018.
It is often said that nature is the best teacher of art- it develops observation skills, aesthetic sense and also builds a connect with nature. Students were instructed to use a water based medium and very soon they were able to produce alluring sketches of the foliage around!
They were asked to use very limited shades of acrylic colours so that they learn to explore the total variation of single pigment.

The students were guided along on basic sketching skills such as contour lines, shading, proportion and composition. Students tried the pen and ink technique, some did textural painting and others tried the Impasto technique etc.
Nature is a wonderfully rich resource for picking subjects to sketch. The students selected their own angles and views and using a pencil began to investigate the form, progressing to details and finally making for compositions at the end.
