Participation in National French Spell Bee

The National French Spell Bee is a prestigious contest conducted across schools in India to promote French vocabulary and its correct pronunciation. Students from 10 distinct zones across India competed in two rounds to reach the finals. Over a period of two months, the students were given a word bank of 100 French words to learn. This culminated in the contest where students were expected to spell as many of these words as possible in thirty seconds!

Before making it to the finals and after two rounds, there was a zonal tie-breaker round on 27th December 2016. Here students of class 9-D (Nitika Manocha, Dhairya Sachdeva, Anshika Sharma, Rhea Khanna, Jessica Bajaj, Asmita Chauhan) and class 8-C (Aanchal Gupta) accompanied by their French teacher, Ms. Chandni Airi visited Khaitan Public School, Noida. The tie-breaker round titled Concours dorthographe was organised by LE FREHINDI.

Students competing at the zonal level were shown 10 French words for nearly 10 seconds after which they had to recall and write them. Dhairya Sachdeva of class 9-D made it to the final round from the South Delhi zone. The other students were rewarded with zonal topper badges.

The final round of the Concours dorthographe (National French Spell Bee 2016) was held at the India International Centres C D Deshmukh Auditorium on 21st January 2017. The chief guests on the occasion were Ms. Jaya Gadgil, HOD of the French Department at Fergusson College, Pune and Ms. Mayuri Assudani, Director and Professor at the French Centre, Nagpur.
The winners at each level were given generous prizes. The 1st and 2nd runner ups won a trip to FREHINDI Village and the winner won an all-expense paid trip to France. Our Dhairya Sachdeva made it to the final but missed proceeding beyond this time.
