Pratah Stuti on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.

An unusual invocation marked the celebrations of the birth anniversary of Gandhiji and the International Day of the Aged at our School. Grandparents of our students filled The Foundation Hall for Pratah Stuti, a morning of the Mahatma's beloved bhajans on 1 October, 2013.

The programme started with a train of students of class 5 dressed up as our great freedom fighters, Bapu himself, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Sarojini Naidu, Kasturba Gandhi, Rani Lakshmibai and others.

The grandparents were welcomed to participate in a morning of melodies that moved the Mahatma. The bhajans were presented by our Indian music teachers Ms. Shuchismita Chatterjee, Mr. Sanjeev Kumar Chaudhary and our librarian, Mr. Rajeev Massey along with choir students of classes IV to XI.

The bhajans were ably accompanied by our Indian Instrumental music teachers Mr. Sujeet Gupta on the flute and Mr. Adhir Das on the tables. Vaishnav jana to', Payo ji maine Ram ratan dhan payo, Ram ka gunjan kariye and Ek Radha ek Meera' were some of the bhajans that made the audience hum along withthe singers. The programme concluded with some sporting grandparents taking the mike before finally the whole hall resounded to the Ram Dhun.

The music was lifting and no one was left unmoved. Children and grandparents had together sought to bond and bind with the timeless values of truth and tolerance and the homage seemed complete. The audience solemnly emerged from the auditorium to be ushered to the canteen area to take a bite, as it were of the favourite breakfast of Gujarat, the birthplace of Bapu. Hot and fresh jalebi- gathia and masala chai waited to be sampled.

A colourful salt rangoli decorated the entrance in commemoration of Gandhiji's satyagraha by salt even as an artisan spun the School charkha for the occasion.
