Pre-primary Adventure Camp at School

The Pre-primary children arrived at School on Monday 14th March 2016 brimming with excitement. It was the day they were to take part in an adventure camp on the School play field. The entire field had been transformed for the purpose. A commando net covered half the field, a life-size trampoline stood in one corner while equipment for activities such as the Burma Bridge and river-crossing were spread out in another. The field looked inviting and the children couldnt wait to begin the day!

The children in their tracksuits, were led by their teachers onto the field. They were then asked them if they could imagine what lay ahead for them that morning. And to their amazement, several children promptly named the activities lined up! Before commencement, the organisers described the activities to the lined-up children and explained why they were beneficial. They explained that the activities would help them (a) lose their fear; (b) learn discipline and timing; (c) learn safety rules and (d) train their motor skills for better coordination. The instructors then began to demonstrate how each equipment was to be tackled. Rapidly the children came forward and embarked on the exercises as per instruction. They seemed determined to master the myriad little challenges laid out. Some were quicker than the others and some were cautious and more mindful of each step they took. Both girls and boys displayed equal energy, and it was extremely heartening for the teachers to see the children maintaining discipline even as they attempted to outperform their classmates. In fact, there were several examples of the achievers lending an arm to prop up a slower class fellow At 10:30 am the children returned for their snack. A breather followed and then they were back for a final round of activities until 11:30 am. The session ended but the smiles didnt as the day had been a very exciting one for all! Ms. Aditi Gupta.
