Report for Literary week

The Indian School observed Literary Week with an array of activites through the week from 23rd to 27th April, 2018. This week is observed each year to ignite and fuel new interest in reading, creative writing etc. Our little ones at the pre primary level participated in their own special way on each day.

Day-1 :Special stories were narrated to the children. Some of these were An Elephant and his Trunk, Bubbles the Litterbug, The Big Red Dog, The Blue Jackal and Pepper lends a Helping Hand. Besides being entertained, the children learnt a lot of new words. They listened attentively to the stories and promptly volunteered answers to questions put to them! They also explained bits of the story to each other by sequencing the story cards on a board. The PS children watched a puppet show specially prepared by the teachers for the occasion.

Day-2: The children coloured dummy book covers of the story narrated to them on Day 1. They happily recalled the story in its sequence. The PS children did a Show and Tell activity.

Day-3: On Day 3 the teachers presented a puppet show to tell the story, The Hungry Caterpillar. The children enjoyed watching the caterpillar grow to become a beautiful butterfly. The PS children watched a story enactment by their teachers.

Day 4: The children used their Rangometry kits to build stories. They created colourful characters using diverse shapes and narrated the stories to the class teacher and classmates. The exercise was one of stretching the imagination and entreating creative juices to conceive of characters and plot. The PS children did a crocodile circle activity where they spotted and named objects in a crocodile's mouth.

Day 5: the grand Literary week culminated with a stage performance of our little Indianites with an enactment of the story, 'The Sky is Falling'. The performance was grand and lively with handmade props of the vivacious characters. The PS children presented a picture composition where they did finger tip printing on the cut out of a lion.

The activities were planned to hone listening and verbal skills, decision making, creativity, abstract thinking etc and the week turned out to be an extremely engaging experience mixing learning with fun for the children.
