Session 1

Several activities were conducted like a drawing competition and a ' comprehending the passage' exercise , to create better awareness of road safety. Stress was laid on the importance of preventing road rage. It was underlined that school buses must carry documents of authorisation and be fitted with automatic closing doors. All teachers should be trained to continually include road safety awareness and knowledge in the orientation they give to their students. Students must know that driving and drinking never go together and such acts are a punishable offence by law. The legal consequences of drunken driving were also named.

Session 2

In the second session, guidelines for four and two wheelers were explained. We were reminded that children should be specially informed about the safety measures on the road during fog and rain. The different types of warning signs were also discussed, namely, a) Mandatory warnings (b) Informatory warnings.

The resource personnel laid special emphasis on not allowing the clicking of 'selfies' and equally, desisting from telephonic conversations, whilst driving. We were told how light signals with techno cops work round the clock to particularly safeguard against errant late night drivers.

Other aspects that were discussed during the training were the need to be extra alert about pedestrians and slow-moving vehicles while crossing intersections. We should not blow the horn at a red light. Teachers must teach students the road symbols. Cleanliness on the road and on their sides was also one of the aspects covered.

It was an informative session and we were glad for the tips we received.
