Science in Everyday Life - A special assembly by class 3A during Science Week

“Science is like magic but is real!”

In great enthusiasm, The Indian School observed Science Week from August 5-9 2024. Among the many activities organised during the special week, the students of class 3A held a special assembly on August 7 2024, focusing on the theme “Science in Everyday Life”. The assembly aimed to showcase the ways in which science plays a vital role in our daily activities. The objective of the activity was to prompt  new curiosity and interest in scientific concepts among the young learners.

The assembly began with a brief introduction, where the students emphasised the significance of science in everyday life. They explained how science and technology governs manifold aspects of our everyday lives.

A group of students in costume, dressed as the celebrated scientists, Thomas Edison and Albert Einstein, and made their way on the stage and explained 'their' contributions to the world of science.

The highlight of the assembly was a series of experiments demonstrated by the students, each designed to demonstrate everyday scientific principles in an engaging manner. For example, an experiment involved rubbing a balloon on a student’s head to create static electricity, which was then used to attract small bits of paper. This illustrated how static charges work. Another experiment demonstrated the cohesive properties of water molecules, showing how they stick together and create surface tension.

A particularly exciting experiment involved simulating a volcanic eruption. The students combined Savlon and Eno to create a chemical reaction that produced foamy “lava” spilling out of a model volcano, much to the audience’s delight. Another experiment showcased the chemical properties of turmeric, demonstrating how it changes colour when mixed with different substances.

The assembly concluded with an enthralling dance presentation by the students to a song about the life cycle. The peppy music and energetic choreography brought smiles to everyone’s faces, as the children danced in joy and enthusiasm. The performance was a fitting end to a well-executed assembly, leaving both the students and the audience in high spirits.

Overall, the assembly was a great success, providing an engaging educational experience for everyone present. It not only highlighted the role of science in our daily lives but also demonstrated the potential of young minds to explore the magic of scientific concepts.
