Seeking out a Story
On 20 November 2012, students of class 8 to 10 interacted with Dr. Vayu Naidu, the first recipient, in Europe, of a PhD in storytelling.
The session was introduced with brief insight into the myths and mythology that mark all cultures. Soon imaginations began to come undone as 'The Paradise and the Eight Vasus' cautiously unfolded. Imaginations picked up flight and quickly matched course with the wondrous bends of the tale.
The curiosities captive, the story-teller had the children asking for more! Dr. Naidu also explained how she used voice-modulation, breathing, pauses etc in her task. Besides the technique of 'crick and crack' to entreat the interest.
Dressed in folds of flowing brilliant orange with a large banded motif on one side, the narrator duly began in dramatisation. The rest was an uninterrupted flourish of a tale, nurtured with novelty.
