Senior School assembly on Resilience

On 3rd July, 2018 a special assembly was conducted by the Psychology students of classes 11 and 12 on the theme, "Resilience and it's significance in one's life." As customary, the assembly started off with the news. This was followed by the weather report and a thought for the day to make for a positive beginning.

Resilience, in simple terms, is the capacity to remain steady and in control of oneself in the face of an adverse circumstance. An interactive activity called Marble Tube, was conducted to demonstrate the concept. The activity was conducted by the student volunteers of class 11 who were divided in groups of four. Each group was given a tube and the groups of students stood by each others side, in a way that the tubes got connected. The aim of the activity was to make a marble travel through all the four connecting tubes without any participant touching or dropping it. The activity engaged the students as they learned communication, cooperation, problem-solving and remaining steady; all integral facets of a resilient person. The last group of volunteers comprised our teachers who performed the activity, with great skill.

For a finale, 2 students of class 12, Prabhsimran Kaur and Mitali Nanda, undertook an exercise to paint on a large upright canvas, synchronising their strokes with the soothing notes. Undoubtedly music has a calming quality. Sirjan Kaur of 12 D shared with the assembly the meanings of the concepts-eustress and destress. She also shared a certain techniques that can help to counter mental pressure mounted by cramming schedules and heavy workload.

Simultaneously, students were briefed about stress and how it can be channelised to build mental health. The students and teachers shared their personal choices of methods of relaxing and reducing stress levels. The assembly concluded with some words of wisdom and encouragement from our Principal Ms. Tania Joshi followed by the national anthem.
