Skating-Hockey match, Skating Rink, 27 February, 2012

The spirit of sports is embodied in it's ability to transcend barriers and bind people from all walks of life. Sports ingrains the values of perservance and grit and teaches never to submit. No wonder that so many memorable games have seen heroes built off early failures.   We at our School salute this spirit. The brisk Spring morning set the tone and mood for the match that was the first of it's kind at our School. The teams were well matched with the students of class 4 divided into 2 teams with 6 students each. An additional 2 students in each team stood in as substitutes. The skating rink look poised for a pulsating contest. The young sports' aces attired for the event, exhibited the body language of seasoned sportsmen! And their spectators offered every exhuberance.   The match commenced amidst loud cheers from the classmates of the players. Team A members were Krish 4D, Chaitanya 4D, Chaitanya 4A, Aditya 4B, Dhruv 4A, Ayush 4D, Raunak 4A and Nitansh, 4B. Team B had Aman 4B, Kunal 4A, Gunraaj 4B, Randheer 4B and Avinoor 4E. Though the match was a friendly one, it had all the ingredients of a do or die' game! The players grappled to collect control and swing to score. Goals did not come easily as neither side swiftly submitted, so deft was the defence. An endearing display of techniques by the teams was a delight to watch especially as the children were so young. Shooting, punches and swift dribble were all astutely assembled to enhance the assault. Reverse shots also came with an unexpected comfort. With cheers unabated, the match became even more exciting when the first goal was scored. Soon the crowd was loudly cheering Krish who hit the first goal. A second goal followed by the opponents, by Gunraaj. Nitansh finally hit the winning goal to carry leading his team to triumph. The players who drew a thumping appreciation for their ball control technique, which led to goals were Anmol, Krish and Nitansh. The match closed Team A lifting a win with a score of 2-1.   What a wonderful experience it had been not for it's entertainment quotient alone. It had carried the all-valuable message that there can be no substitute for hard work anywhere, academics or sports! There couldn't have been a more refreshing break as the children returned to the challenges of their final exams' preparation in renewed readiness.
