Sky walk, A trip to the Nehru Planetarium
There is no end to the adventures that we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open.
-Jawaharlal Nehru
The Nehru Planetarium is situated in the green surroundings of Teen Murti House, earlier the official residence of India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, now a museum in his memory. The Nehru Planetarium is a wing of the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library.
The field trip to Nehru planetarium served to enrich learning in students of class 2 who went to the museum on an excursion. They were introduced to the study called astronomy as they listened in curiosity. A talk and visual presentation about the Solar System cemented what they had learnt of it as a part of their project work.

The children then watched a 40 minute movie at The Sky Theatre which is dome- shaped. They saw and heard about the constellations, stars, planets, galaxies, etc.
A major attraction was the Soyuz T-10 which carried Indias first cosmonaut Rakesh Sharma to space. His space suit on display was a source of great excitement!
We also took the opportunity to take the children to the museum where they were fascinated to see the home and memorabilia of Pandit Nehru. The students seemed curious by the pictures, letters and artefacts received by the late prime minister from the different nations he visited. They even got a chance to walk past his living areas and personal office as also the place where he breathed his last.
Several hows and whys filled our conversation on our way back and we were delighted that the excursion had evinced the interest we had anticipated.
