Special assembly on Freedom Fighters by class 4B.

The struggle for independence is an important milestone in our countrys history. It not only brought us freedom but also gave our countrymen a great sense of pride. The numerous brave hearts who placed their lives on the line, as it were for their motherland, are all role models for the generations to follow.

The special assembly, therefore, aimed at recalling the unbroken spirits and determination of some of the greatest leaders who led our nation to independence, to ignite an admiration amongst our little ones.

The assembly began with a pageant of students, dressed as leaders such as Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Sarojini Naidu, Rani Laxmi Bai, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and Mahatma Gandhi. By turn they climbed up to the stage and introduced their characters. They then narrating a few of the achievements of each character.

The introduction was then followed by the poem, Where the Mind is Without Fear by Rabindranath Tagore. The poem spread the poets message that every human being should breakthrough the shackles of ignorance, prejudice, disunity and other evils to lead an uplifted life. Political freedom is pointless, he said, unless the citizens are fearless and rise to be dignified, truthful, hard-working and broad-minded. That alone will be true freedom.

The assembly ended with the entire assembly singing together the national anthem.

Outcome of the Assembly The assembly was a visual and more engaging means to educate the children about the freedom fighters. It also familiarised them with about the acclaimed works of Rabindranath Tagore, the author of both the poem and our national anthem. Most importantly, the assembly had a great moral to teach-, that it is not political freedom which is of utmost importance, but the process of freeing ourselves of our internal ills.
