Special Assembly on Spring, Pre-primary, 9 February 2012
The season of renewal and rebirth is upon us. Like a new born baby this season brings with it the sweetness of new beginnings and endless possibilities.
The Pre-primary welcomed the Spring in it's special way at a Spring assembly on 9 February, 2012. The Pre-schoolers selected ' the babies of the different animals' that had been introduced under Ecology through the year, as a theme. Each child donned a beautiful handcrafted mask or headgear of the piglet, foal, bunny, cub and puppy etc. The masks and headgear were made by the children during their craft activity and each child had learnt a rhyme and story related to his/her chosen animal.
A bouquet of young animals, their family, habitat and their uses in the form of a rhyme and story made a pretty presentation. The children spoke and performed with confidence on the stage, and the children in the audience enjoyed singing along with those on the stage.
The pre-primaries selected the flower as a theme from their adopted silk route states for the special assembly. They chose the Crocus kesar from Kashmir, Hibiscus from West Bengal, Jasmine from Tamil Nadu, Marigold from Banaras and the Rose from Karnataka. The children looked vibrant in the headbands which were colored and cut into the shape of the flower of their adopted silk route state by the children themselves. The choir quickly spread their cheer with their opening song, All things bright and beautiful. The speakers then spoke confidently about each flower. It was interesting to know that many of the flowers were brought to India through it's colonisation. Like the marigolds origin is in South America and it was brought to India by the Portuguese.
Yet another assembly that was an attempt at ' edutainment'! Not to forget our corridor board-displays which also exude the same exhuberance of Basant.
As told by Ms.Shalini Grover, teacher.
