Sports workshop for PE teachers

The benefits of physical activity are well-established, with positive effects on body composition, metabolic and cardiovascular health, as well as psychological factors such as reduced stress and anxiety, improved self-esteem and confidence, and decreased depression. This is especially important for children as it promotes healthy development, prevents disease, and enhances cognitive functions.

Premier League Primary Stars is a programme that aims to promote personal, social, health, and economic education through sports and games. Mr Rohit Dubey and Ms Tanuja Bisht from The Indian School attended the workshop held at the Chhatrasal Stadium on February 22nd and 23rd, 2023. The programme provided the teachers with coaching, training, learning resources, and physical education activities. The programme included ball skills challenges, video analysis, rest and recovery methods, player movement and team tactics to help young players develop technical skills and athletic performance.

During the workshop, participants learned about nutrition and resting techniques, including the impact of different food groups on the body and how to recover after a game, through methods such as meditation, ice baths and sports massages. Gross motor skills were also emphasised as important for children's development and self-awareness. The programme focuses on the four phases of gross motor skills development: play for fun, play to learn, play to progress, and play to perform.

Overall, the workshop successfully combined research and practice to promote positive movement opportunities that enhance self-esteem, worth, dignity and self-discipline, with an emphasis on more than just sport. The programme aimed to inspire a passion for the game while promoting teamwork and personal development.
