Story-telling, Literary Week in class 1.

Literary Week was observed in class 1 from 20th April to 24th April 2015. The subject chosen was Folk tales from Gujarat. The 5 sections of class 1 selected a story each from the given titles; The cheeky crow, The two rodents, The barber and the tiger, The robbers and Talkative tortoise. The first day of the week began with the teacher introducing Gujarat to the students on the class board and a map. She also introduced them to various traditions of the state.

The next day the teacher narrated the story selected with the help of pictures. New vocabulary from the story were picked up and introduced to the students in the form of a game. Thursday witnessed the students making book covers with their favourite characters from the story they had heard. On the last day of the week all the sections were involved with craft activities to reinforce the story and its origins in Gujarat. The poem, ' Cherry on the Cake' was selected for choral recitation during Literary Week. The children learnt to conduct themselves independently and express themselves with voice modulation, successfully achieving completing the circle of learning, as it were, of the week.
