Summer Internship at YES BANK, classes 11 and 12

Fourteen students, two from class XI-B and twelve from class XII-B had the opportunity to intern at Yes Bank, India's fifth largest private sector bank.

The internship was a two day programme, on June 2 and June 3, 2015 held at Yes Bank, Jangpura branch. On day 1, we were accompanied by Ms. Pooja Bahl, HoD Commerce. It commenced with an interactive session with Mr. Rohit Dawar, branch manager and Mr. Karan Khullar, relationship manager. We discussed the various aspects of banking and how banks function. We were acquainted with terms like Repo rates, Legal Reserve Ratios etc., which not only helped us widen our knowledge but also helped us understand much of our Economics and business related concepts! Mr. Dawar then opened the floor for questions.

On day 2, we were very excited because we were going to get a chance to see lhow their bank functioned! Mr. Khullar briefed us about the various instruments of banking, from cheques and ATMs to lockers and forms of money transfers. We were informed of the ways of checking a cheque's validity and how they use a machine with UV Rays to make sure a cheque is authentic. This machine not only helps them to verify cheque's validity but also does the same for currency notes. We got to know that INR currency notes are much more complex than what appear. There are more ways than one to check if a note is real or fake. We were informed about how an ATM works and what minimum balances are maintained. Every student was also encouraged to have an account of his/ her own which would be beneficial in the long run.

The two day programme ended with a token of appreciation from School which was presented to Messrs. Dawar and Khullar.

We would like to thank School for giving us this novel learning opportunity. We look forward to more.

Mehar Kaur, XII-B.
