Teacher webinar on Digital Learning
A webinar on Digital learning: Impact on mental and physical health of students in the present scenario was conducted on 2 June 2020. The speaker at the event was Dr Deepak Gupta (Senior Consultant, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and the moderator was Dr Shalini Advani (Director, Pathways School, Noida). More than 300 educators from all over the country attended the webinar. College of Art, Science and Commerce, Department of B.Ed. SCERT Delhi, Don Bosco School, K R Mangalam GK-II, Delhi were some of the institutions that participated in the webinar.
The webinar focused on the need to embrace digital learning in the current scenario and to make it a routine these days, the impact on the social and emotional well-being of the children and their teachers. the effects of increased screen time and the steps to be taken for the general well being of the students.
Dr Gupta began the session by naming the benefits and challenges of digital learning for students as well as teachers. Some of the points highlighted by him were social distancing as the need of the hour, involvement of innovative methods of teaching, inability to have one-on-one sessions, technical difficulties, time management etcetera. He also cited apathy, poor motivation, irritability, anger and defiance as some of the effects of digital learning. He also expressed his views on digital learning versus digital addiction.
After the discussion, Dr Gupta answered the queries of the participants. These were related to agenda and guidelines to prepare schools after the pandemic, building life skills during it, dealing with the challenges faced by the CWSN and using lockdown to build family bonding.
The interactive session ended on an optimistic note where the resource person mentioned that team work and life skills can help our community deal with the situation. It was an informative session and helped us to look beyond the drawbacks of the pandemic.
