Teacher workshop on Indian art, its history and appreciation.

An intensive course on Indian Art: History and Appreciation was held by Mr. Benoy K. Behl, art historian and film maker on 16th and 17th December 2017 at the India Habitat Centre. This workshop was attended by our senior art teacher, Ms. Garima Singh.

A series of lectures by Mr. Behl took us on a journey through ancient and medieval Indian art. An author, film maker and photographer, Mr. Behl brought together facts from his own vast travel experiences. He explained the meaning of the Stupa, the Linga and the development of the temple in India. He showed Indian art in the light of ancient Indian treatise on art making and Indian philosophic traditions upon which art is based.

The talk was profusely peppered with the display of numerous popular clicks by Mr. Behl himself as well as some short films on Indian art including some very rarely seen murals. The course covered the history of art, from the Indus Valley Civilisation, Gandhara art, the Ajanta paintings, Chola sculptures, Rajput miniatures, even Company and Modern art.

This succinct two day course presented a wide perspective of the subject and was a great learning experience.
