On 30 January 2019, seven students of The Indian School- Kavya Shrotriya (8E), Pratham Goel (6B), Anush Malik (6D), Kumar Ritovash (7D), Anish Puri (8B) Jayant Kumar (8D) and Sam Singh (9B) participated in the INTACH Foundation Day celebrations held at INTACH ( Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage), Lodhi Road.
The versatile Indianites added another feather in the Schools cap by achieving the first position in the song competition which was named Monument Speak. They overcame the tough competition of nine schools from across Delhi and NCR. The participants rendered self-composed songs inspired by the monuments adopted by their respective schools. The event was an initiative to spread awareness amongst schoolchildren of the rich and varied cultural heritage of our country.
The tomb of Firoz Shah Tughluq, located in Hauz Khas, has been adopted by our School. In order to stand unrivalled in this competition, our participants applied themselves passionately into researching and discovering the historical significance of the monument and and their own roles as guardians of our heritage.

The students of class 6 visited the tomb and undertook several activities there. They carried out a cleaning drive, took a heritage walk and also indulged in an outdoor sketching session.
As the fort is a large complex with several different but equally interesting structures, choosing a subject for the most apt sketch was a formidable task! The angles from which the young artists attempted to capture the various edifices on their drawing boards were very deft as as each tomb offers more than visually haunting image!
There were diverse performances ranging from qawwalis to bands with varied instruments such as the harmonium, tabla, shaker instruments, and even the bongo. The songs sang of history, architecture, and legends associated with the monuments. All the songs conveyed a singular message, namely that we must protect and respect our heritage. The entry of our team won the hearts of the judges and was named the best entry!
A wonderful endeavour by INTACH, it gave our youngsters the opportunity to use creative means to create awareness about conserving our national heritage. Our Schools efforts were applauded and highly appreciated by the Director of INTACH, who then distributed participation certificates and trophies to the winning teams.
